World Tuberculosis day 2020: It’s TIME..

World Tuberculosis(TB) day is commemorated on 24th March to raise public awareness about devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end global TB epidemic. In 1882 March 24th, Dr. Robert Koch discovered TB Bacilli, which is responsible for this deadly disease. His discovery was a breakthrough in diagnosing and curing this disease.

Robert Koch

Dr. Robert Koch identified the specific causative agents of tuberculosis, cholera, and anthrax and also gave experimental support for the concept of infectious disease. For his research on tuberculosis, Koch received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1905.

TB remains the world’s deadliest infectious killer. Each day, over 4000 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30,000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Global efforts to combat TB have saved an estimated 58 million lives since the year 2000. India is determined to eliminate TB by 2025, we need more participation from the community to spread awareness about the early diagnosis and completion of  TB treatment. So be a leader for a TB-free world.

We made a short film on the awareness of Tuberculosis in 2018. Our small effort to make this short film won us awards in the national and state level given by Indian association of preventive and social medicine (IAPSM). We won 2nd prize in the national level & 1st prize in the state level.

As doctors we do our job by trying to spread awareness in every way possible, be it in the hospital, in family, amongst friends or in the society by making such a video. I hope and intend to keep spreading awareness by means of short films or other modalities possible. kindly LIKE and SHARE the video as much as you can and contribute your part for a TB-free world.

Discovering Telangana: Chandraghad Fort-‘The Hidden Jewel’

Monsoon is the best time for traveling in India. For travelers like me, I find traveling in this time is most romantic and soothing to the soul. As nature and the pleasant weather along with it adds unbeatable charm. Yes, I’m talking about Telangana the youngest state in India, where travel is highly rewarding as it boasts many unexplored gems in its tablelands.

Chandragad fort, Telangana (4)

Happiness is a car, good friends and pleasant roads..

Road less traveled:

For many hyderabadies, the least popular getaway is Mahbubnagar. It is around 90 kms and it can be reached in less than 2 hours on a smooth road.  As we live in Mahbubnagar town we’ve decided to explore the interiors of it.

Chandragad fort, Mahbubnagar, Telangana (5)

Road trip with good buddies is never boring..

So, we planned a quick weekend getaway to Chandraghad fort. After about two hours on the road, we reached our first stop Jurala dam. This place is well known for its barbeques. We had lunch here. Then we started to the Chandraghad fort.

Driving through the countryside, dotted with paddy fields and hillocks. I always love exploring new places and Chandraghad fort is one of the best places I’ve been so far in Telangana. It is a Hidden jewel in Telangana.

Where is it?

It is a picturesque hill fort and is located on the banks of River Krishna at Chandraghad Village, Mahabubnagar District, Telangana. It is about 8kms from Juraladam. There are no sign boards for this place. One has to take help of Google maps or Locals in order to reach this place. It takes 20 to 30mins of walk to reach the hilltop from the nearest road point.

A Peek into history:

This Fort was built during Peshwas and belongs to Chandrasena Jilledar. This is a strong fort constructed to store the grains and taxes collected from people. The fort offers the remains of the protective walls, gateways and several ruined buildings. The Sri Ramalingeshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located inside the fort.

Chapora Fort of Telangana:

It has a great view from the top. The fort sits on the top of a hill and there’s a magnificent view in all directions. It is a pleasant place to wander. After witnessing the sunset. We almost felt the same when we experienced sunset in Chapora fort. Hence we named it as ‘Chapora Fort of Telangana’.

Tips from my perspective:

  • There’s no public transport facility to this place. Traveling by own vehicle is preferred. If you are traveling by car, there’s a narrow way which leads to the hilltop.
  • Use google maps or ask locals
  • Best time to visit this place is during the months August to February
  • Carry your food and water bottles.
  • Reach this place before 6pm.

Sunday Sunset in Palamoor

As a passionate traveler, I love to explore many sunsets across the world and capture those Sunsets, as they always evoke good memories. But I never imagined that viewing sunset from Devungutta hill, Mahubnagar will be this magical. I indulged myself into this irradiating surrounding. Almost as if the sky has wrapped itself around the world, like a comforting blanket. Nothing could replicate this feeling.

Every sunset, puncturing feelings I’ve never felt before. Feelings and sights that put even the most beautiful sunsets to shame.

Beyond the Boundaries: Our Interventional team of Pulmonolgy

Beyond the boundaries: On 25th July, Our interventional team of Pulmonology has performed ‘Cautery and Balloon dilatation’ using rigid bronchoscopy for treating Tracheal stenosis. Proud day for us as this is the first time we have performed this procedure in the entire district of Mahbubnagar.

Case Details:

A 28 year old male patient met with a road traffic accident in December 2017 and suffered from Subdural Hemorrhage & was mechanically ventilated for 8 days. He recovered from the head injury, but later developed ‘Tracheal stenosis’ as a complication of Endotracheal tube Intubation. He presented to our Pulmonology Out Patient Department with a complaint of dyspnea & hoarseness of voice.

At SVS Hospital Mahbubnagar, Our Interventional Pulmonology team with the support of Anesthesia treated this patient by cauterizing the granulation tissue in the trachea causing stenosis by ‘Rigid bronchoscopy’ followed by ‘Balloon dilatation’ of trachea.

Our Short film ‘Behind the mask’: Won 2nd prize at National Level..

India is a country with a population of 1.3 billions of which 2.8 millions are suffering with tuberculosis and 4 lakh TB patients die annually, making it Nations biggest enemy!!

But sadly, not everyone is aware of the importance of early diagnosis and proper treatment, which can drastically reduce TB related deaths!!!

This issue needs to be addressed soon to prevent TB related deaths due to ignorance about the availability of free diagnosis and treatment.

We made a short film on the awareness of this disease & which in turn might SAVE A LIFE, then I think we are doing our job for the welfare of the society…..

Discovering Telangana: A Fort Less Visited ‘Khilla Ghanpur’

On a bright Sunday morning, when we hit the roads to explore places around Mahabubnagar little did I know that it would mark a beginning to quite a few things in my life…. like my first outing with my new buddies while pursuing post graduation, my first time properly exploring Palamoor and getting lost in its mesmerizing beauty and then writing about it in my very first blog!!

Khilla ghanpur (60)

The secluded green valleys of Khilla Ghanpur hold Palamoor’s best kept secrets

Khilla ghanpur (53)

A quick weekend getaway to Khilla Ghanpur is best enjoyed when the sky is overcast, which makes the 30-km journey from Mahbubnagar delightful.

So we started our journey after finishing quick rounds at the Hospital we work at, around 12 noon ( yes you guessed it right, we are Docs!) and picking up some snacks and drinks for our journey to The Khilla Ghanpur, located at a distance of around 26km from mahabubnagar. We managed to cover the distance in about 30 mins with loads of enthusiasm and predictions about the place as we didn’t have much idea about it. Ghanpur is a small village and the roads were pretty narrow so we decided to park the car at a safe spot and start our trek to discover the fort. We managed to reach the top in another 40 mins with an amazing drizzly weather to increase the beauty of the hike.

Khilla ghanpur (59)

The varied hues of Nature and fresh air rejuvenated our senses.

It was a magnificent view indeed from the top of the rocks with remnants of fort wall, and a lovely pond underneath. We passed through a giant fort door, saw some great Flora and Fauna an absolute treat for a nature lover to finally reach the top. We were a little distracted in between though by a group of wild monkeys far away making gruesome noises. All this was soon forgotten after reaching the hilltop and capturing the scenic beauty of the less trodden fort in the memories forever!!

A brief insight into the history of the fort

The Ghanpur Fort is a hill fort built on a rocky hill by King Gona Ganapa Reddy in early 13th century. He ruled this area as a feudatory to Kakatiya rulers. Gona Ganapa Reddy is son of Gona Budda Reddy who was famous as the poet of Ranganatha Ramayana, a pioneering Telugu Literature. Khilla Ghanpur also known as Ghanpur, Ganapuram, was named after Kakatiya king Ganapathi Deva. Since this Ghanpur has a Khilla (fort). The name “Khilla Ghanpur” became much more popular. There are several towns in Kakatiya kingdom with its name as Ghanpur.

Khilla Ghanpur  was built by joining two mountains by Recharla Padma Nayakulu and Gona Ganapa reddy in 1224 A.D. This fort has witnessed many wars between Bahamanis, Vijayanagara Kings, Bijapur Kings and Qutub Shahi Kings etc. The cannons which still exist have been kept on the top most side of the fort. The fort is spread on rocky and hilly area of 4 Sq kilometers and though its dilapidated  there are several remains of the walls and building blocks inside the fort. The fort has beautiful rockscapes and greenery with 2 ponds which were used as drinking water supply for the fort army.

People believe that there are two secret tunnels inside of the fort. One is connected with the village at the bottom of the mountain and the other one is connected to the Panagal fort. After Buddapuram war, this fort has witnessed a historical wedding of  Kakatiya’s last king Pratapa Rudra with Gona Ganna Reddy’s daughter.

Some of the beautiful Landscapes:

So that’s a take on its past but right now it’s a quiet and serene place which was a treat for the wanderlust in me and my buddies.

After spending a wonderful evening, when the sun was setting, we headed back to our car as the clouds were also getting darker indicating more rainfall. We Had dinner at our local favorite hotel 97 on the way back and reached our place to end the eventful day.
